After buying our farmhouse, my husband and I noticed some slightly uneven flooring—maybe a little shifting in some areas during the hot months—so we inquired with a couple of foundation repair companies to help us figure out the problem and provide a solution. The first quote: $39,000 and a “We’ve never seen this type of pier and beam before, so we aren’t sure what to do quite yet.” I’m sorry, how can you quote that much without having an idea of the work you’re going to do? Crossed off the list.

The next guy (the sales rep) came and said he also wasn’t sure what to do, and his technician would come over for an additional $500 and then decide what the quote would be after that. Okay, at least he was honest, but… let’s see what door number three says.

Guy number three comes and says, “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and this is not bad at all. Honestly, if I lived here, I wouldn’t even get this service done.” Really!? The first guy basically said we’d die if we didn’t do this. RELIEF. Thank God that we just went from “holy moly, we’re going to have to come up with $39,000” to “eh, don’t worry about it.”

How I came up with the idea for the 90 Minute Sprint
